Welcome to this week's issue of Tip of the Week!  One of our goals at AmeriSpec® is to provide you with handy hints and tips to help you understand your home. For professional advice and inspections give Keith or Liz a call at 388-0904. The AmeriSpec Tipsters have decided “Vapor Barriers” is this week’s topic.

 

Why do we need vapor barriers in homes, and where should they be?  The general idea behind having a vapor barrier in home construction is to keep water vapor out of the insulation. Wet or moist insulation is not only ineffective but can cause mold problems. In our climate, the vapor barrier should always be on the conditioned side of the insulation, or facing inwards toward the living space of the house. New houses are often wrapped with Tyvek or similar product.
